Communications Manager
Location: This is an onsite position (San Diego office) with the potential for occasional remote work.
Status:
- Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt
The Communications Manager reports to the Senior Director of Marketing. This is a full-time salary position which is in-office in San Diego, with the ability to work from home on occasion. The ideal candidate is proficient in a variety of writing styles and can write in a variety of voices. This is a hands-on writing and communications position where you will write monthly emails and newsletters, create general marketing content like social posts and radio scripts, as well as collaborate with industry professionals on press releases and media buys. Attention to detail and excellent proofing skills are a must because we often represent our nonprofit partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work within the Marketing Team to develop content and copy for CARS and our nonprofit partners
- Work closely with the graphics design team to create marketing materials for digital, print, audio, and video
- Manage our monthly emails and newsletters
- Develop creative and emotionally driven written content
- Create structured and analytical research articles
- Ghostwrite for the CEO on a variety of topics
- Place media buys and manage an advertising budget
- Assist with social media posting and content development
- Educate the CARS staff to improve verbal and written professional etiquette
- Works closely with senior leadership on communications projects
- Represents CARS to our 5,000+ nonprofit partners
Qualifications:
- 4+ years’ experience in a writing communications-based role
- Communications, Journalism, or related college degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- A strong background in English grammar is a must
- Communications, Journalism, or related college degree preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is a must
- Proficient in blogging platforms and basic programming like html and css is a plus
- Work well on a team and independently
- Project management and leadership
