AUTOS FOR ANIMALS! - Austin Humane Society Reunites Pets & Families
Dozens of cats and dogs are now waking up alongside their beloved human families. It’s a moment many of us cherish and for a group of families, all of which were devastated when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico last year, getting their animals back was the final piece in truly starting their new lives on the mainland.
Partnering with our friends at Puerto Rico Animal Unite, thirty-one cats and dogs boarded a jet on the island and made the journey to Austin. That’s where the team from the Austin Humane Society unloaded each crate and transported the animals back from to our shelter.
As you can imagine, some were overwhelmed and a bit shy. Our team looked them over to ensure all were doing fine and then let them settle them into new kennels while they waited for their families to arrive. Thankfully, they didn’t have to wait long – and the reunions were absolutely amazing.
Throughout the afternoon on February 25th – months since the last time these animals had seen their loved ones - there were lots of happy tears, hugs, puppy kisses, and belly rubs as the families spotted each other for the first time. It was magical!
Dogs like Zeus, who burrowed into his mother’s arms; Kyra, who lit up with a giant smile that never left her face after seeing her dad; and Carmelo, who instantly fell into stride with his sister and has now settled right into this new life!
