Currently, CARS is unaware of any special notification requirements for Georgia. However, a Voluntary Cancellation of Registration is recommended to release liability.

Voluntary Cancellation of Registration


There are 3 ways in Georgia to notify the DOR-MVD that you have donated your car: online, in person, or by mail. Currently, there is no option available online. You can find more information and forms for each notification method below:


1. TO COMPLETE THE VOLUNTARY REGISTRATION CANCELLATION FORM ONLINE:

PREFERRED METHOD* If possible, we highly recommend completing forms online instead of by mail, so you may easily save and print out a copy for your records that includes a date/timestamp. Also, when completed online, a receipt can be printed ensuring it's been received.

  1. You can voluntarily cancel your vehicle’s registration online using DRIVES e-Services. Click the button below to access DRIVES e-Services. You will need: Your license plate number or VIN number, as well as your driver's license number.

2. TO COMPLETE THE VOLUNTARY REGISTRATION CANCELLATION FORM IN PERSON:

  • Please print and complete the Application for Voluntary Registration Cancellation Form.
  • Submit to your County Tag Office. Click HERE to locate your County Tag Office..
