HOW TO HANDLE THE LICENSE PLATES WHEN YOU DONATE A CAR, TRUCK, SUV OR OTHER STANDARD VEHICLE IN NEVADA
Please remove the license plates of your donated vehicle before the pick-up. License plates must be surrendered in person or mailed to your local DMV—unless you use them on another vehicle.
If you wish to allow another person to use an existing set of license plates that you currently own, you must complete a License Plate Release. If you qualify for a refund, you must apply in person at your local DMV office.
Depending on the type of license plate, you may have either 30 days or 60 days to use the plates on another vehicle or turn them in. Generally, if you have a standard Home Means Nevada plate, you will have 60 days. If you have a special plate, you will have 30 days”.

*PREFERRED METHOD*If possible, we highly recommend completing forms online instead of by mail, so you may easily save and print out a copy for your records that includes a date/timestamp. Also, when completed online, a receipt can be printed ensuring it's been received.

2. TO CANCEL YOUR REGISTRATION IN PERSON:
- Please bring the license plates and decal to any DMV office and surrender them to a technician inside the office. Do not place them in a drop box unless it is specifically marked for license plates. You may keep personalized or specialty plates as a souvenir; however, you must bring the rear plate to the DMV and scrape off the decal in person.
