Seller's Report of Sale

There are 3 ways in South Dakota to notify the MVD that you have donated your car: online, by mail or in person. You can find more information and forms for each notification method below:

1. TO COMPLETE THE SELLER'S REPORT OF SALE ONLINE:

*PREFERRED METHOD* If possible, we highly recommend completing forms online instead of by mail, so you may easily save and print out a copy for your records that includes a date/timestamp. Also, when completed online, a receipt can be printed ensuring it's been received.

CLICK HERE to log into MySDcars. Please select 'vehicle sold' and choose "Report of Sale" in the dropdown menu.

2. TO COMPLETE THE SELLER'S REPORT OF SALE IN PERSON:

  • Please complete and print the Seller's Report of Sale Form.
  • Submit to your local County Treasurer's Office or click HERE for a list of self-service terminal locations.

LICENSE PLATES

Please remove the license plates from the vehicle. South Dakota is a plate with owner state. This means that the license plates are retained by the owner. If you wish to transfer your plates to another vehicle, you may do so at your local County Treasurer's Office.

PLEASE BE ADVISED:

The purchaser of your donated vehicle is NOT the charity. It will either be the vendor or Charitable Adult Rides & Services.
