Texas Title Transfer

Texas Vehicle Donation Release of Liability

Vehicle Transfer Notification is REQUIRED and must be completed within 30 days from the vehicle pick-up date to remove liability. However, the department will still notate your record if submitted after the 30 days. Please also keep a copy of the transferred Title and/or Registration Form 130-U for your personal records.

There are 2 ways in Texas to notify the TxDMV that you have donated your car: online or by mail . You can find more information and forms for each notification method below:


1. TO COMPLETE THE TX MOTOR VEHICLE TRANSFER NOTIFICATION ONLINE:


*PREFERRED METHOD* If possible, we highly recommend completing forms online instead of by mail, so you may easily save and print out a copy for your records that includes a date/timestamp. Also, when completed online, a receipt can be printed ensuring it's been received.

2) TO COMPLETE THE TX MOTOR VEHICLE TRANSFER NOTIFICATION BY MAIL:


  • Please complete and print the Texas Motor Vehicle Transfer Notfication Form VTR-346.
  • Mail completed form to:

LICENSE PLATES


In Texas, license plate removal is optional. Plates can stay with owner or stay on vehicle for dealer to destroy. However, the registration sticker must also be destroyed upon transfer.

PLEASE BE ADVISED:


The purchaser of your donated vehicle is NOT the charity. It will either be the vendor or Charitable Adult Rides & Services.
